ORIGIN. There is a set of the hypotheses quite often contradicting each other, concerning origins of this breed. One experts consider that Newfoundland conducts the family tree from northern breeds of dog delivered on island about 1600. Others consider that breed occurs from Britain and has been deduced approximately in 1700 when Newfoundland has passed in in possession of Great Britain. According to this theory, British have delivered on island Tibetan mastiff and have crossed them to local dogs. At last, according to the third hypothesis, Newfoundland - the near relation of labrador. This theory is based that Newfoundland and labrador are in many respects similar against each other. Besides, islands Labradors and Newfoundland are located close enough and quite probably that labrador, being the fine swimmer, could cross easily passage Bel Ajl or pass it on ice in the winter.

Today, thanks to development of technics and a communication facility, abilities of these dogs as rescuers do not find so wide application as earlier, however popularity Newfoundland does not decrease, as, among other things, they kind, courageous and loyal friends of the person.
