ORIGIN. Within several centuries Collie served the person and has proved as a fine sheep-dog. The standard of this breed was definitively generated by 1860 then it has been presented for the first time at an exhibition. The name "Collie", most likely, occurs from the name of sheep-kollej - special Scottish breed to a black muzzle and black feet - which, as a rule, and were grazed by these dogs.
The BREED DESCRIPTION. Height: dogs - 61-66 sm, bitch - 56-61 sm. Weight: dogs - 27-34 kg, bitch - 23-29 kg. Collie - very beautiful and graceful dog, but at the same time strong and mobile. For an ex-terrier the head form has special value. The head should be flat between ears, a muzzle direct and long, a nose black. Ears small, taken away back, semistanding, tips of ears (about third of length) overhang forward. A trunk long enough. The tail in length a joint, is lowered and slightly bent upwards on the end. Wool dense and fluffy, especially on a breast, the muzzle and tips of ears are covered by a short wool.
CHARACTER. In character Collie opposite lines are often combined. On the one hand, Collie it is very kind and sensitive, but on the other hand, it is obstinate and lazy. She always very well feels danger, especially if it threatens the owner or children. Collie it is aristocratical, clever, devoted and nonaggressive, though with mistrust concerns people who for some reason or other were not pleasant to it. To train these dogs it is necessary softly, but persistently, attentively catching mood and a condition of a dog. Otherwise it cannot learn even the most simple commands.
USE. Collie - a strong, vigorous and mobile dog. Thanking its mind, it also highly appreciate as a sentry dog, a dog-rescuer (especially on water and at fires) and as a seeing eye dog for blind children. But basically, because of the unusual beauty, Collie is a dog-partner.
The NOTE. Frequent combing will make a wool Collie even more beautiful. From time to time this dog needs to be bathed. It badly transfers a heat and consequently it should have possibility to take cover in a shade in a hot season.
